Lego-robot Competition

The EECS Dept of CWRU is again hosting its annual high-school Lego-robot competition. This year's competition is being organized by Prof. Wyatt Newman (team leader of Team Case in the Urban Challenge) and graduate student Amaury Rolin (software lead of Team Case). The annual Case Lego competition has been a popular event, bringing hundreds of high-school robotics enthusiasts to campus. This year, we are revising the competition to enhance the experience of these students at Case. The competition will be announced in an on-campus kick-off event on February 2, followed by a programming tutorial. Case will host several additional workshops, tech-support sessions, and robotics-lab tours on campus leading up to the competition. The final event will be held in the Thwing ballroom on April 7.

In this year's competition, we will emulate elements of the recent DARPA Urban Challenge–scaled down for Legos. We are also upgrading kits to Lego NXTs for up to 20 teams. The competition will utilize the Bluetooth wireless communications capabilities of these devices, as well as introduce LabView programming.

High-schools participating in the past have been contacted. Enrollment for the competition will remain open up to the kickoff.
